Vinyl storage: 7 ideas to store and display your records

A vinyl collection needs storing… and showing. Poorly stored, records warp, sleeves get damaged and the albums you love end up forgotten at the bottom of a box. Well stored, they become part of the décor. Here are 7 vinyl storage ideas, from the simplest to the most design-led, and the rules for keeping your records in good condition.

The golden rule: always upright

Store vinyl vertically, never stacked flat: the weight of the records on top eventually warps them. Don’t pack them too tightly or let them lean: the sleeve should stand straight, without pressure. Keep them away from radiators and direct sunlight, and keep each record in its inner sleeve.

1. Cube shelving

The classic: units with square compartments of about 33 cm, exactly the size of an LP. Practical for a large collection, as long as you don’t overfill them.

2. A record cabinet under the turntable

A low cabinet with the turntable on top and the records below: everything within reach. The most practical solution day to day, and often the most beautiful in solid wood.

3. A record crate

Like at a record shop: an open crate to flip through. Ideal for a selection of 30 to 80 records you play often.

4. A “Now Playing” vinyl stand

A stand that showcases the record you are playing, sleeve facing the room. It turns the album of the moment into a decorative object. That is the idea behind Le A, our stand folded from a single sheet of steel: the record you are playing on one side, the next one on the other.

5. Wall ledges

Slim shelves where sleeves sit face-out, like in a gallery. Perfect for displaying a few iconic albums, not for storing a whole collection.

6. A record frame

For a sleeve you never take out: a 31.5 cm frame hangs it on the wall like a poster. Some models let you swap the album whenever you like.

7. A bookcase

A sturdy bookcase makes excellent vinyl storage, provided the shelves are at least 33 cm deep and can take the weight: 100 records weigh about 20 kg.

Combine storage and display

The best solution often combines two ideas: a cabinet or cube unit to store the collection, and a stand to display the few albums of the moment. The record on the turntable, its sleeve in full view, and a few others beside it: that is where a collection comes to life.
